The Sister City Committee of Moses Lake Washington is now accepting letters of intent for individuals who want to be chaperones for the 2012 student exchange.

Message from the 2011 Student Exchange Chaperones

Greetings All,

First off for those of you who may not know us, we are this year’s Yonezawa Sister City Student Exchange Chaperones for 2011, Bill & Diana Ecret. We are very excited to be a part of the 30th year of this life changing program and have great group of students this year. They are:

Bryce Perez, Levi Huddleston, Meg Jackson, Seth Yabro, Micayla Strickland, & Jacob Wells (alternate).

As you well know, things in Japan right now are still a bit unsettled, but our group is forging ahead and still plan on making the trip this summer, unless we hear otherwise from our friends in Yonezawa.

We wanted to let you know of a few of our fund raisers that we are offering. This year’s exchange students are selling Oasis Auto Spa Touchless Car Wash Coupons, in bulk or by single coupons for your dirty rigs this spring and summer. 50% of the proceeds will got towards out trip. Special thanks going out to the owners, The Jacksons.

We have also teamed up with Mi Carniceria in Moses Lake, and are selling Tamales!!! These Tamales are the best. Choices are Beef, Chicken or Pork, with your choice of Shell White or Red for $14 per dozen. They come professionally wrapped and will be delivered to your door, fresh, by our group. We are taking pre-orders now. Our first order will be going in on May 2nd and be available on May 4th. We will be doing this several times prior to leaving in July.

Our auction this year is at a new location, The Moses Lake Event Center ,1475 Nelson Road in Moses Lake. The date is Wednesday, June 22nd, 11:30am to 1:00pm. Anyone who would like to donate auction items or door prizes, can reply to this e-mail or contact any of the exchange students. This is always the biggest chunk of the fund raising.

This year we also have a surprise fund raiser that we cannot tell you about yet, but you will know right away when it happens! That’s all we can say!

Our group will be in the Springfest Moonlight Parade on May 28th and are looking for a couple of you with fancy rigs that would be willing to drive all of us in the parade.

We will try and keep everyone updated on our progress and look forward to an exciting, memorable trip ! You have a very special group of kids this year who are facing something that no other group has had to face. We are sure that you are as proud of them as we are. The letter has been sent to Mr. Senio and Harumi which was posted previously.

We have heard from the Sampei family this morning and all is well with them. They are safe and no damage there. We were relieved to find that out. We asked about the roads going in and out of Yonezawa. Waiting to hear from them again. In addition we have not heard from the Watanabe family as yet.

Status / Updates of Yonezawa in Light of Earthquake

Good evening:

Paul and Ginny Hirai spoke with Mr. Senio and Yonezawa received minor structural damage and no fires from the earthquake. Nearby Sendai on the coast is hit hard.

The Big Bend Community College has sent a letter to the JATP office and the consel general’s office in Seattle expressing concern for the welfare of our many friends in Japan. We think a similar letter should be sent from the Sister City Membership.

Just wanting to let everyone know the situation in Yonezawa. For further updates check the fan page at Moses Lake, USA – Yonezawa, Japan Sister City Exchange Program.
